BANSALAN – The Bansaleños celebrated the Commemoration of the 123rd Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Dr. Jose P. Rizal last December 30, 2019 at the Rizal Park, Barangay Poblacion Dos, Bansalan, Davao del Sur, attended by local government officials and employees, private and public schools and institutions, non-government organizations, business sectors, and other civic organizations and groups in the municipality. The program highlighted a brief story-telling of the life and works of our National Hero, as well as the patriotism and heroism Dr. Jose Rizal have shown during the Spanish colonization in the country. A wreath-laying ceremony and a 21-gun salute were also offered to the statue of Dr. Jose P. Rizal to give honor to the celebrated hero.
Mayor Quirina T. Sarte stressed out the importance of being a “makabayan” or a patriot in her message during the program. She said that each and every Filipino should always have the sense of patriotism, to love the country they were rooted in, and to be united to protect its interests. Municipal Councilor Pedro F. Minguito shared the same opinion about unity. In an interview he said that he wished that unity among all Bansaleños will remain amidst all the trials and to continue working on for a brighter and better future of everyone. Dr. Jose Rizal’s bravery and works have marked a new chapter in our country’s history and paved in a new era of Filipinos who are more loving and nationalistic, ready to protect and serve the country, and promotes unity among its fellow men.
